DIY Your Own RICH Textured Jumprings
Here’s one of my handy dandy tricks that will turn cheap chain links into gorgeous custom jump ring findings that will set you apart from your competition. Question: Do you have that one box filled with chain?? All the chain that you’ve bought over the years, that is left over from projects, or bought well just because it was just plain dirt cheap??? LOL I confess i’m guilty on all three counts. Here is just ONE pile of many that speaks to my guilty confession.
This is what I do. Using some basic hammers and a textured surface, I hammer out the links giving them a total makeover. Here I’m using a patterned concrete patio floor just outside my studio door. PS I’ve been known to collect found metal and rock objects in which to hammer on. Sometimes I even carry a hammer and and my metal bits on my morning walk looking for different textures.
What a difference texture makes!!! The only place to find textured jumprings that look this rich are from handmade jewelry findings shops… sorry for the shameless plug…like https://www.etsy.com/shop/safarisister OR you can recycle what you have by using this easy trick and creating your own unique rich findings for your jewelry making projects. Fabulous!!
Once you have your own custom chain links in just minutes now the real fun begins. You can use as a design element unto themselves on a simple earring hook. What about taking different sizes and color of links and combining in interesting combinations to make your own chain. Wire wrap with your favorite gems and beads. PS Chain is HOT for 2014. Here’s some examples of how I utilized my recycled textured links into my jewelry making projects.
